Rabbits are not the best thing to eat. They hold little to no notisional value. I'd try to make a stew with some vegitables or pretty much whatever you have to add nuetion. Also learning to work with fur would be pretty useful now that I think about it...

STOP IT GUYS! Your making me hungery.

Less Stroud shows how to skin the rabbit
so that the whole body's fur becomes a glove

Just a note on the whole "respect" thing mentioned earlier...

You're off just a little, 204. Everybody deserves simple COURTESY. Respect must be earned.

A few have mentioned about different types of water purifying. Anything you guys got besides standard filters and pills, please post 'em here. I wanna know!

Thank you, Proteus.

Respect is ONLY to be earned.

Politeness/COURTESY is to be given.

I am in full agreement with you!

Here is the awesome thing that Les Stroud does:

two containers, one bigger than the other,
a piece of plastic, preferably
a little bigger than a dinner plate
and
a small rock or small weighted item.

Put pee or salt water or questionable water
in the large container.

Put the smaller container in the water in the center.
Put the plastic over both
and the rock in the middle
so that it pulls down into the center of the smaller container.

Find somewhere a bit warm.
The water will evaporate
up to the plastic and drip down into the smaller container

Evaporation purification. I've put much thought into this technique. Very good, Flora!

boiling is a sure fire way to do it. bu that comes with the risk of evaporating water. moving streams are generally pretty safe to drink in small amounts. never drink from standing water, specifically puddles and small ponds. stagnation breeds bacteria that can ultimately lead to dehydration and death.

if you have a plastic bottle you can boil the water in the bottle if you have it far enough away from your fire that it can still heat up the water and sterilize it. if you can find charcoal it makes a great filter. what do you think filters are made out of anyway?

if you can find moist dirt, digging far enough will yield some water. its pretty safe to drink, as its naturally filtered by the earth and doesn't contain any bacteria.

That's all Les Stroud!

I think that you can look him up on youtube.

His stuff is great.

They show him using it in several situations

Bear Grylls does a filter-thru-the-shirt
and, actually, drinks it on-camera

( shivers )

Les Stroud balances out the questions
of: "dying of thirst"
vs.
"sitting in the hospital for a few weeks until your tummy gets better"

They both have very good ways of going about it. Bear also kept his urine in snake skin in the boiling sun for several hours and drank it. I don't think I could do that...

The first sentence sums it up perfectly. The definition of Respect is acknowledging that someone or something has value. Everyone, and every thing has value to some extent or another. Everyone and everything deserves your respect. All you need is good listening skills and the ability to be kind.

I personally feel the phrase "Respect is earned." is a phrase that people who find it hard to/don't want to respect those they disaprove of use to justify themselves. But again, that's just me.

Also, here's a question to ponder; what harm will come out of giving respect freely?

Anyway, to each their own. Smile

If you guys want to discuss respect in a new thread, I dig it. Until then, let's bury the hatchet on this one.

I have seen on a couple of TV shows that you can give yourself an enema with water that is not safe to drink, and your body will absorb it to keep you hydrated. Does anyone know if that would work with salt water?

i think there seem to be 2 schools of thought here . is this discussion about havong to bug out for a few days in a survival test or having a bug out bag and survival skills to bail on short notice and survive if there is a national emergency that is going to last a while .

if it was going to be a short term thing i wouldnt leave my apartment , ive got everything i need here for me , my son and a few friends to survive something short term , the bug out bag zombie has prepared ( it is awesome ) makes me think of bailing on scocity and surviving a long term period of complete collapse . meaning months or longer without government or laws .

discuss

I'm personally in the mindset of being stuck in a survival situation. Of course, that probably stems from having to get out of dodge for whatever reason.

Watch red dawn with patrick swayze. You'll see exactly what I mean.

yah, you do need to worry about food.

The brain suffers and then, the liver.
Then, more

I heard the enema story.

I nurse and her family were stuck.
That man better be loving her!
There is only a SHORT list of people
who know that you won't die if you have an enema with brackish water!

...but Instructor is correct...not salt water
