While I'm glad it seems to have worked out okay, I think Phoenix's judgment here was flawed. You don't come to a school to give an anti-bullying talk, and then encourage a kid from your audience to throw a punch. I hope Phoenix offered to pay the medical bill.

Its about PJs judgement. Which seems to be consistently lacking. PJ could have done a lot of good here and reached a lot of kids. Instead he squandered it and this happened.

Well, hopefully he learns from every mistake and becomes better over time.

The incredible joy on that kid's face is what really makes this story awesome.

I'm sure I would feel the same way if I was 11.

It does seem like most news outlets, if they didn't choose to totally ignore this story, would have ran with "Local Superhero Breaks 11-Year-Old Boy's Arm" (and then clarified in the text it might have just been his finger) rather than, "Dumb Kid Shouldn't Punch Awesome Local Superhero."

Message to Pheonix Jones

What was telling the kid it was ok to punch people supposed to accomplish?

You were there to talk about anti bullying and non vilolent ways to solve the issues if possible It doesnt make it ok to have the kid hit you any more than it would have ben ok for you to hit the kid You need to smarten up before you do something worse that could land you into alot of trouble Violence never solves anything There is self defence and there is outright violence while they dont solve anything one is used stritly as a tool for survival yet you tell the kid that it is ok to hit you meaning that you are not teaching Self defence you are inciting violence and telling him that its ok to go around hitting people The next time he hits a person he might just hit back or he might do worse than break the kids finger You would be very lucky if the kid doent get the story mixed up and tells his parents that you attacked him and broke his arm You sir should be ashamed of yourself for allowing the boy to hit you and your armor like that What you should have done is remove a piece of it and pass it around to let the kids feel how hard it is or bring a sample piece that you no longer use and demonstrate its stregnth in a controled enviroment Meaning that you have a dummy wear the armor and you are the one to hit it with a hammer to show how strong the armor is while the kids are observing from a safe distance

I would never ask kids to jump on my steel toe boots or bash their heads on my helmet because it would be foolish to do so The kid jumping on my boots could slip and fall on them and really get hurt and the kid punching my helmet could break his hand or suffer a cuncussion if he tried to bash his head on it When kids see my shovel They know that it is not a toy and they are not allowed to touch it unless I am there holding it myself because even the blade could very easily cut fingers right off as easy as I clean through solid ice

and the weight of it is heavy enough that a small kid could get hurt just trying to lift it

There's a lesson to be learned here.

If it's bullet proof, then it's probably 11 year old boy fist proof, too...

Dark Wolf, you're right. Too many helicopter parents and no hard landings to teach kids a well needed lesson. This wasn't necessarily a dumb thing to do on PJs part, it taught the kid "don't do that or it'll hurt". Jews are taught painful lessons at birth from exodus to the holocaust, this is no different, just not as heavy-handed *bah dump-thump!*

Uh.. actually it is PJs fault. He's an adult. Should know better and should be a better influence on kids who have less of an understanding of how the world works than he does.

You know, I get people asking all the time if they can punch my armor. You know what I tell them? No, you'll break your hand. This is dumb ass crap, bottom line.

If it's PJs fault, then it is the fault of those overseeing the children as well. As for the armour, yours is hard plastic...his is semi insulated via the rubber suit and the fabric from his ballistics vest. I really doubt he thought that the kid COULD be injured. Hell, during the Superheroes Documentary, Mike was hitting me in the chest after I told him that I had on a ballistics vest.

it's fiberglass. its like punching a bathtub or a small boat. except I'll give way before the armor does. and that kids bones are tiny and fragile. in any event, challenging a kid to punch your armor at an anti bullying speaking event sends the wrong message. PJ could have done a lot of good today and reached kids, really inspired them. thats what pisses me off about this. he puts himself out there so much, just to look like a damn fool.

I'm not one to make a hasty judgement call on this one but,...I'm gonna have to agree with Urban Avenger on this one. These are kids we're talking about here and as for body-wise, kids are still growing and developing. A child's hand against armor, ANY armor,...meh, not a good idea. The fact that the kid will be ok is good, things not withstanding, Kids WILL be kids and as a father i know all too well that they are curious about things and that child-like curiosity can sometimes backfire on them.

But this is Phoenix Jones we're dealing with here as well, His record well, kinda speaks for itself.

Eh! Lets chalk it up to another dumb PJ move... hes done more good than harm and every once in a while theres a lack of judgement... Besides, the kids WERE asking him if they could punch it. Im going out on alimb here and saying that maybe the 11 year-old didnt have a proper fist made.
