When I go camping down south in the summertime I usually buy around 5 or 10 bags of ice and sleep on top of half of them while the other half is covering me like a blanket

Im also an early riser by your standards Im used to getting up at 4 in the morning to go for a jog in the summertime or to shovel out the CBC building throughout the winter months

try wearing more clothes so your body gets used to the extra heat. i know it sounds counter productive but it will get you used to the heat you you dont get heat stroke.

i wouldnt suggest this is a daily routine but perhaps put on lots of clothes and go shovel snow for a couple hours or how ever many you can handle, then go change into normal clothes.

i live in massachusetts so we get 90 degree summers and -5 degree winters, but this year it only hit 20 degrees minimum besides litteral THREE days! im suing nature, i want my cold weather! So i guess my body is used to the extremes.

Another thought. You could drop your pants and declare you're wearing the latest summer fashion from Paris. Then the mounties would put you in the cooler Razz

In Scotland our summers are surprisingly good for how far north we are... so there are a lot of old wives tales that i find work really well
  • Putting your wrists under the cold tap for three minutes will reduce the temperature of the blood running through your veins and lower the temperature of the rest of your body. Obviously not practical on patrol so i looked online and found a product called "Coolbands" Which is designed for the problem your describing.
  • Wearing white clothing will reflect the sun and thus reduce heating, If you have any darks in your uniform switch them for whites
  • Eat foods with a high watch content before the patrols, as that will let you sweat more and the more you sweat the cooler you get
  • Take your drink (be it Lemonade or good O'le H2O) In a vacuum flask as it will insolate the drink and keep it ice cool and refreshing for ya

Im wondering how you guys down south deal with the heat

Um, putting thin cotton shirts in the freezer. Put them in there before making the nightly rounds and when you get home, it's waiting for you. There's also sports drinks, washing my hair with cold water (does wonders), cold gel packs, laying off heavy foods.

I hate the heat. Hate. It makes me miserable and physically ill.

It also makes people crazy and prone to doing things they wouldn't otherwise. Heatwaves really up the crime rates.

I put my outfits in the freezer I always wear White While camping down south I will buy packs of ice and sleep in between them wearing just a tshirt and trunks right beside the air conditioner If I have to sleep in a hotel I just put my sleeping bag in the shower and run cold water over me all night and the heaters are turned right off If its raining Ill sleep on the balcony outside the room even through thunderstorms

Punched someone out once for doing that to me. Kinda automatic response to cold things on my back.

Back to heat, follow the three eds. Hydrated, shaded and ventilated.

Sleeping with the shower running all night sounds like a huge waste of water. :/

Being out in the rain is awesome though, so invigorating.
